The Writing CLAW is designed to teach young children how to hold their pencils correctly. Its patent pending design features three sleeves that guide the pointer finger, middle finger, and thumb into the correct tripod grip. As a result, students can focus on good handwriting rather than the mechanics of holding the pencil. The CLAW is used in school settings and pediatric clinics and is often used to help children who have Autism, ADHD, developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, or general fine motor delays improve their handwriting or hold forks, spoons, paintbrushes, etc.
The CLAW is also recommended for adults with hand injuries, arthritis, and/or neurological disorders, as it eliminates the usual joint stressors and muscle demands normally associated with holding and writing with a pen or pencil. Since the CLAW can stretch and slip over a variety of implements, it is also used to help hold eating utensils, thus increasing function and independence in the geriatric population or any individual with decreased fine motor control.
The Writing CLAW is available in three sizes. Although hand sizes vary, small is generally recommended for elementary school kids (measures approx. 1.25 x .75"), medium for middle school (measures approx. 1.5 x .75"), and large for high school and up (measures approx. 1.7 x .9"). Easy to use for left or right handed individuals. Recommended by occupational therapists and teachers. FDA approved. Latex-free. Sold in packs of 2. Colors may vary.
